Story
Every winter, Peru is a country that we look forward to representing. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work with many different partners at every stage of the supply chain, with relationships tracing back to many disparate parts of this diverse landscape, but we’ve never been disappointed. This year’s offering from Cajamarca is no exception, and we’re grateful to our importing partners at Apex for finding it.
Asociación de Productores Agropecuarios Café Solidario, referred to just as Café Solidario for short, was established in Jaén, Cajamarca, in 2017. Today it represents 256 farmers spread across Jaén, Chota, Cutervo, Utcubamba and San Ignacio. Located across an elevation range of 1,600 - 2,100 meters above sea level and with a healthy mix of varieties planted, Café Solidario supervises a wide range of innovative projects geared toward producing high-quality coffees that also stimulate economic and social development throughout the community. In addition to quality, Café Solidario also supports sustainable farming techniques such as crop rotation, organic fertilization, and integrated pest management. Altogether, this is exactly the sort of whole systems work that we are most enthused to support, especially when the results are so beautiful in the cup.
This lot is fantastically jammy and nutty, with flavors of deep red and dried fruits. In the cup, we taste, black cherry, hazelnut, and fig.
